The Haryana government has commenced an e-auction for 1,197 liquor outlets across eight districts, with the process scheduled to conclude by May 28. The districts involved in this auction include Gurugram West, Mewat, Panipat, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Rohtak, and Jhajjar. This initiative is being overseen by the state’s excise and taxation department, marking a significant step towards modernizing the allocation of liquor licenses.
In a related development, despite the ongoing model code of conduct due to the Lok Sabha elections, Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s cabinet has approved a new excise policy. This policy, which introduces an increase in excise duties, is set to come into effect on June 12, aligning with the financial year 2024-25.
The e-auction will proceed in four rounds, reflecting the state’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in the allocation process. This move not only aims to streamline operations but also to potentially increase revenue through the newly structured excise duties.
